Scarborough (ME) – Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is launching a campaign to support nationwide health care reform. As a trusted health care provider, PPNNE knows firsthand how critical it is to expand access to health care coverage, including comprehensive reproductive health care.

“Any health care reform plan must ensure access to reproductive health care and the community health centers that provide this care to millions of Americans,” said Chris Quint, Senior Public Affairs Director for PPNNE.

As the nation’s economic crisis remains uncertain, more women are turning to women’s health centers, like Planned Parenthood, for basic health care. Women of childbearing age spend 68 percent more in out-of-pocket health care costs than men, in part because of reproductive health-related needs.

“This campaign is to support and advocate for women and the response has been outstanding,” said Quint.  “Tonight, PPNNE will hold a phone bank at our Scarborough office, calling our U.S. Senators to urge them to support women’s reproductive health care.”

Several more phone banks and other volunteer activities will be announced in the following weeks.
