May 17, 2012, Chapel Hill—Today Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina (PPCNC), with health centers in Chapel Hill, Durham and Fayetteville, announced the election of new board officers and members for the upcoming year. The new members bring significant community involvement and leadership to a non-profit board already rich in proven talent.
Newly-elected PPCNC Board Chair Donna Chavis said, “As chair of the board, I am honored to work with such a strong and vital board of directors. As we move forward in 2012, I expect that PPCNC will remain an exemplary provider of reproductive health services for women in North Carolina and I am proud to be a part of this team."
New PPCNC Board officers include:
Chair: Donna Chavis,a Lumberton resident and current Executive Director of NC Gives, a field of interest fund at the NC Community Foundation.
Chair-Elect: Rebecca Davidson, an attorney in private practice in Lillington, NC.
Vice Chair: Margaret Dickson, a businesswoman and former NC House and Senate Member, who lives in Fayetteville.
Secretary: Wendy Hustwit, a freelance copywriter and proofreader from Fayetteville.
Treasurer: Barbara Harris, retired professor of History and Women’s Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Assistant Treasurer: David Lent-Bews: Vice President of Resolute Building Company and co-owner of Touch America and Touch International, furniture companies with offices in Hillsborough and China.
New Board members include:
Val Applewhite: Current Fayetteville City Council member representing District 7 and a veteran of the US Air Force.
Kara Hollingsworth: State Operation Vote Director for Organizing for America and Fayetteville resident.
Jon Oberlander: Professor of Social Medicine and Health Policy & Management at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Alys Protzman: Owner of Alys Design LLC, Interior Design of Chapel Hill.
Charlie Reese: General Counsel at Rho Inc. and current board member for two sections of the NC Bar Association.
Mary Schlegal: MD and Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology at UNC-Chapel Hill and coordinator of Women’s Health Services at James Taylor Campus Health Services, UNC-CH.
