Bellingham, WA — As the leader of reproductive health care in our state, Planned Parenthood knows first-hand the struggles women and families face when trying to access quality, affordable health care.

MBPP Public Policy Coordinator Stephanie Kountouros believes the rally draws attention to one of the nation’s most critical issues. “Planned Parenthood is determined to support the goal set by President Obama to achieve health care reform this year. In 2008, 94% of our affiliate’s clients had incomes at or below 250% and we are sometimes their only health-care provider,” Kountouros said, “Rallying in coalition with so many health care groups and concerned citizens sends a message that the public demands health care reform now. We want our decision-makers to hear us, and we want them to see that we are united in this cause.”

The theme for the march is “Mothers Leading the Way.” The event is open to all, but highlighting mothers focus the impact the health care system has on our families and on our communities.  The median expense paid by women under 45 years old using high deductible health plans is $1266-$800 more than it is for men. A year ago, 74.6 percent of health care workers in America identified as women.

MBPP will be providing a free bus to and from the Seattle event. Space is limited. Sign up by May 26 by calling 360-603-7705 or email advocate@mbpp.org.
