FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Boise)  – Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest (PPGNW) announced today the opening of a new health center to be located in Meridian, Idaho at 2112 E. Franklin Road.  The Meridian health center will open in late April.

Planned Parenthood has been a trusted women’s health care provider in Idaho since 1971.  The new Meridian health center will offer a full range of high-quality reproductive health care, including affordable access to birth control, well-woman visits, breast and cervical cancer screening, emergency contraception, sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, abortion services, and comprehensive sexual health education and information.

In Idaho, 145,000 women are in need of contraceptive services and supplies, and yet Idaho is ranked 22 out of 50 states in access to contraceptive services.  Planned Parenthood’s new Meridian Health Center will increase access to essential reproductive health care for Idaho women.

“We are really grateful that we’ll be able to see more patients who need affordable, quality health care in the expanding Treasure Valley community,” said Rebecca Poedy, Chief Operating Officer at PPGNW.  “PPGNW determined that another health center was needed, in addition to our Boise center on State Street, to better serve patients seeking reproductive health care.  With easy freeway access, the Meridian location will be much more convenient for clients who live in the southwestern part of the Treasure Valley.“

Planned Parenthood’s focus is on serving people who rely on us and, too often, have nowhere else to turn.  In addition to being the state’s leading advocate for women’s health care, it is important to know that Planned Parenthood does more to prevent the need for abortion than any single health organization working in Idaho today.  Over 90% of PPGNW’s service is preventive health care.

The Meridian health center will initially be opened three days a week and will expand hours as needed.  To make an appointment at any of PPGNW’s Idaho health centers call 1-800-230-PLAN or visit www.ppgnw.org.
