Local non-profit to have educational booth at LGBT event

YakimaAs part of its commitment to encouraging health and education in underrepresented communities, Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho (PPGWNI) will be hosting a booth at Yakima’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Festival. The booth, staffed by local volunteers, will have a variety of educational pamphlets specific to reproductive health issues faced by LGBT people, such as accessing health care and risk reduction. There will also be a trivia game and prizes for participants.

“Planned Parenthood is dedicated to providing quality health care, honest education, and fearless advocacy for all people,” said Anna Franks, President and CEO of PPGWNI. “We are sensitive to the health care challenges faced by our friends in the LGBT community. We are proud to not only support Pride by offering our materials and spreading the word about our services, but also to support the LGBT community daily by providing compassionate and confidential reproductive health care services.”

Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho sees over 40,000 clients per year at its nine health care centers across central and eastern Washington. PPGWNI provides a wide variety of reproductive health care services, including sports physicals, cancer screenings, anemia testing, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, birth control services, and pregnancy testing and options counseling.

Yakima Pride will be held on July 31st from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Franklin Park, located at 2105 Tieton Drive in Yakima.
