Concord (NH) - Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) announced today with Representative Beth Rodd, Leader of the New Hampshire House Reproductive Rights Caucus, and other Reproductive Coalition members, the growing opposition to the Stupak ban in health care reform.

“PPNNE believes that women’s health must be a priority. Any health care reform plan must ensure coverage of reproductive health care and not ban a key component of that care like the Stupak ban did in the House.  The Stupak ban violates the spirit of health care reform, which is meant to guarantee quality, affordable health coverage for all,” said Kary Jencks, New Hampshire Public Affairs Director for PPNNE.

“We hear that certain members of Congress wish to take devious advantage of the complicated rhetoric of our country’s health care initiative and to use this venue to intrude on the most private and profoundly personal decision a woman must make. A decision rightly in the realm of choice between a woman, her family, her conscience, and her God,” Representative Rodd said. “As the New Hampshire House of Representatives’ Reproductive Rights Caucus Leader, I am calling upon the women and men of New Hampshire to protect women’s health and to protect their constitutional right to privacy. We must call on Senators Shaheen and Gregg to not support this ban.”

Women’s Health Counselor, Ms. Karen Kelly spoke about her personal experiences and that women’s reproductive health care must be included in reform.

Choice Coalitions members called on Senator Gregg to ensure that women's health is treated fairly in health care reform and delivered a petition with hundreds of signatures echoing that call. Members are working diligently to ensure that health reform passes and that it protects women's right to purchase the health insurance plan of their choice.
