Free STD Testing Events for "Get Yourself Tested" Campaign

Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) is proud to participate again this year in a nationwide campaign to increase testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections called “GYT: Get Yourself Tested.”

The GYT campaign is a public information partnership between Planned Parenthood Federation of America, MTV, the Kaiser Family Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other national partners.

The campaign is designed to address the high rates of sexually transmitted infections among young people in U.S. One in two young men and women will get a sexually transmitted disease by age 25—and most won’t know it. Untreated infections lead to complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility.

Testing for sexually transmitted infections is a core service offered by Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region. Testing for HIV and syphilis is always free and available without an appointment during regular business hours at our health center at 2430 Poplar Avenue.

In order to raise awareness and encourage testing, PPGMR has planned a number of additional free testing and community education events during the month of April:

• Free STD Testing Day on Tuesday, April 24th at our health center at 2430 Poplar Avenue, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free testing for the most common sexually transmitted infections: chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV. No appointment is needed.
  
• Free HIV testing each Monday from 1-3 p.m. at GetWell Community Clinic, 3055 Watson Street.
  
• Free HIV testing each Wednesday night from 6-9pm at the Memphis Gay & Lesbian Community Center, 892 So. Cooper.
  
• Free HIV testing each Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Memphis, University Center Room 203.
  
• Free HIV testing each Friday evening, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Caritas Village Coffee Shop, 2509 Harvard Avenue.
