Humboldt County Clergy for Choice and Six Rivers Planned Parenthood invite the public to join them in 40 Days of Prayer and Contemplation. Participants in the program set aside time with family and community to support women and reproductive justice for 40 days, from March 18 through April 27.

On day one, participants pray for women for whom pregnancy is not good news, that they know they have choices. On day nine, they pray for women who are afraid of their lovers. On day 11, they pray for better access to all forms of birth control; and on day 40, they give thanks and celebrate that abortion is still safe and legal.

During these 40 days, members of Clergy for Choice will be hosting the following gatherings in celebration of women and reproductive rights:
-- Sunday, 4 to 5 p.m. Interfaith prayer, discussion, refreshments and fellowship at Temple Beth El in Eureka, hosted by Rabbi Naomi Steinberg.
-- Sunday, 7 to 9 p.m. Dances of Universal Peace (Sufi Dances) honoring the spiritual wisdom of women, past and present at Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Bayside, co-hosted by Scott Sattler.
-- March 26, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Discussion on ending domestic violence at St. Francis in Fortuna, hosted by the Rev. Jeri Gray-Reneberg.
-- April 12, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Celebrating and giving thanks for the intelligence, talent, wit and wisdom of all women and girls at the Old Town Gazebo in Eureka, co-hosted by the Rev. Dave Holmquist and Nancy Dye.
-- April 27, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Time to celebrate the end of the 40 days of prayer and contemplation with prayers, quiet sharing and fellowship at Arcata United Methodist, hosted by the Rev. Cindy Storrs.
