FITCHBURG—Family planning health services for men and women are now available three days a week in downtown Fitchburg. As of November 14th, Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts will offer scheduled and walk-in services every Monday 9AM-4PM, Tuesday 12PM-7PM, and Thursday 12PM-7PM at their Fitchburg Health Center at 391 Main Street.

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) has offered comprehensive family planning services to the residents of Fitchburg and surrounding towns since 2010 and serves as a trusted health care provider for many members of the community.

Among the services offered are gynecological care, annual exams, birth control, as well as testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

“We are proud to be part of the public health solution in Central Massachusetts and ensure that every person has access to sexual health care, preventive services, and educational resources,” said Deb Fenton, Regional Health Center Director for Central and Western Massachusetts. Family planning health centers in Fitchburg, Marlborough, and Milford were made possible by a two-year federal Title X grant awarded to PPLM in December 2009.

Fitchburg has the 15th highest teen birth rate in the state (over twice the state average) and surpasses the state averages in chlamydia rates and women in need of contraceptive services. These persistently high rates of teen pregnancy and STDs underscore the continued need for the resources provided by Planned Parenthood. “By extending our health center hours in Fitchburg, we hope to better meet the community’s need for family planning services,” Fenton continued.

To make an appointment, patients can call (800) 258-4448 or visit www.pplm.org.
