SEATTLE — Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest (PPGNW) is encouraging the community to celebrate National Condom Week beginning on Valentine's Day (February 14).  National Condom week is a great opportunity for the public to learn more about the benefits of condoms for sexually active people. PPGNW will celebrate National Condom Week by providing FREE condoms at each of their 29 health centers in Alaska, Idaho, and western Washington. Finding the nearest health center is done by logging on to www.ppgnw.org/locations

"Latex condoms offer the best protection against sexually transmitted infections for sexually active people and are an effective, inexpensive over-the-counter method of birth control,” said Carole Miller, PPGNW Vice President of Education and Training.  “During National Condom Week and every day, Planned Parenthood works to educate the community about the important health and safety benefits of using condoms."

Latex condoms help

• reduce the risk of pregnancy.  Condoms are an effective, inexpensive over-the-counter form of birth control.

• reduce the risk of HIV transmission.  The condom is a highly effective barrier against HIV infection.

• reduce the risk of other sexually transmitted infections.  Condoms significantly reduce the risk of getting or passing many other sexually transmitted infections.
