Champaign, IL – Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) will honor two long-time Champaign residents and activists, Jean Paley and Cecile Steinberg, with Planned Parenthood’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement award tonight at Champaign & Chocolate, a benefit event for PPIL.
Paley and Steinberg are receiving this award for their leadership and commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission and vision to advance reproductive justice and women’s health care.
Both women are co-chairs of Planned Parenthood’s Champaign Health Center Capital Campaign, which has raised more than $1.3 million for a new health center that will serve the Champaign County community.
“We are deeply grateful to Jean and Cecile for their unwavering commitment to Planned Parenthood,” said Steve Trombley, CEO and President of PPIL. “Both women have dedicated themselves to our mission and have worked hard to drive the success of the Champaign Capital Campaign. I am honored to present them with this award today.”
In addition to honoring Paley and Steinberg, PPIL will recognize several Champaign teens for their commitment to PPIL’s peer education program, a prevention-focused program aimed at bringing medically accurate, age-appropriate, comprehensive sexuality education to the community.
PPIL peer educators, who are paid educators, lead one-on-one and group discussions in Champaign schools, social service organizations, professional organizations and faith communities to educate other teens, parents and community members about making healthy decisions.
All peer educators complete 60 hours of comprehensive sexuality education training and engage in weekly meetings to engage in positive activities that teach decision-making, communication and leadership skills.
PPIL’s Champaign & Chocolate benefit event will be held at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Ave., from 6 – 9pm. All proceeds directly benefit PPIL’s programs and services. For further information about the event, contact Andrea Cedusky at firstname.lastname@example.org or 312-592-6838.
