Bend, OR – Planned Parenthood supporters will rally tonight in Bend to show their support for the organization. On Friday, February 18, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to bar Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds for any purpose, including providing basic primary and preventive health care like birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, HIV testing, STD testing, and other essential care. Rep. Mike Pence offered the amendment to the FY11 Continuing Resolution, which completely eliminates the national family planning program, Title X.

By far, this is the most dangerous legislative assault on women's health in our history, and reflects the pursuit of an extreme political agenda by the Republican House leadership. In attacking Planned Parenthood, the House Republican leadership has launched an outrageous assault on the millions of Americans who rely on Planned Parenthood for basic and preventive health care.

Hundreds of supporters have attended rallies to show support for Planned Parenthood in Portland and Eugene. Today’s rally gives Central Oregonians an opportunity to show their outrage for this decision, and to let their representatives know how important Planned Parenthood and women’s health care is to the community. In Oregon, more than 100,000 women, men, teens and families use Planned Parenthood services each year, and without Planned Parenthood, most would have nowhere else to go.

What:    Rally to Support Planned Parenthood
When:   Thursday, March 3, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.
