Becki Brenner, CEO of Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region, Heads to Johns Hopkins

Cincinnati, OHThe Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, under its Executive Renewal Program, awarded Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region (PPSWO) a grant in the amount of $3,558. The Renewal Program is a grant program under the Women’s Fund for the specific purpose of revitalizing female leaders of local nonprofit organizations. With this funding, a senior executive can take part in an experience to build her leadership skills, reflect on her organization, or participate in a program in order to effectively take her organization to the next level.

The funding will enable PPSWO President & CEO, Becki Brenner, to attend the 8th Annual Summer Institute at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland in June 2010. The 12-day intensive course on Reproductive Health and Development will cover public health issues related to the mission and work of PPSWO and other family planning service providers in the Greater Cincinnati area.

The prestigious Johns Hopkins University offers a summer institute each year for public health professionals. The courses are designed to be intensive and short-term so that administrators can study the latest information on a variety of public health topics while serving as a hub for these individuals to create a network for moving the public health agenda forward in their communities.

The Women’s Fund recognizes the strategic importance of women’s health care for the overall health of the community, particularly for those women who are uninsured or underinsured. Funding PPSWO is a clear indication that the value of the services Planned Parenthood delivers to Southwest Ohio will be enhanced by Ms. Brenner’s participation in the Johns Hopkins program.

Becki Brenner states, “The exposure to a diverse group of professionals who work on similar issues in different organizations will give me new perspectives on current and future problems. I will return with the latest analytical skills and tools to give back to Southwest Ohio as I sit on community boards, consortia, and committees that affect women’s health. I am confident that this experience will benefit me, my agency, and my community.”
