Equalized health care a must
On 2/1, volunteer Kimberly Wright’s untitled letter to the editor was published in the Wooster Daily Record and on its website. It addressed the need for health care reform to provide equal care and coverage for women’s health needs.
Editor:
I'm writing to address the ongoing health care reform and the need for better and more equal care for women.
Women already are discriminated against in health care. Men pay half as much for health premiums than women and less than half in out-ofpocket health care expenses. Higher premiums and out-of-pocket expenses result in women increasingly delaying or skipping preventative care due to cost.
Women's sexual health is compromised and punished, while male sexual health is celebrated. Many insurance companies do not even cover contraceptives. Improved access to contraception could significantly greatly reduce the unintended pregnancies that occur every year in this country.
Congressman Boccieri needs to vote for a final health care reform that equalizes health care coverage for men and women.
