Planned Parenthood Remembers Dr. George Tiller
Statement by Peter B. Brownlie
All of us at Planned Parenthood of Kansas & Mid-Missouri remember the life and work of Dr. George Tiller with gratitude and grief as we observe the one year anniversary of his murder. Our hearts and our prayers continue to be with Jeanne Tiller, their children and other family members, his former staff and the thousands of women who benefited from Dr. Tillerís compassionate and dedicated care.
Dr. Tillerís murder was an enormous loss for women and their families in Kansas and across America. His murder was a despicable act of violence. The fact Dr. Tiller was assassinated in his church makes it even more despicable. We are grateful the justice system worked, and swiftly so, in the apprehension, trial, conviction and sentencing of Mr. Scott Roeder.
We hope the media will respect the privacy of Dr. Tillerís family, and the privacy of the staff of Planned Parenthood, as we mark the anniversary of this tragic event in Kansas and continue our daily work of improving womenís health outcomes, preventing unintended and teen pregnancy, reducing the number of STIs, and providing basic health care to women who need it the most.
We continue to miss Dr. Tiller as a friend and colleague and as a courageous physician dedicated to serving women and families.
Planned Parenthood is a vital resource for our community and for women and families throughout Kansas and Missouri. We are a trusted source of health care and education for thousands of women, men, and children. For 75 years women have relied on Planned Parenthood to keep themselves and their families safe and healthy.
