WHAT:             Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, the region’s leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate and provider, will be hosting a mobile phone bank at the Tivoli Student Union on the Auraria Campus in Denver on Dec. 2 as part of a national day of action to communicate to members of Congress the importance of passing health care reform that does not restrict women’s ability to purchase private health insurance that provides comprehensive health care, including abortion. The effort is supported by a broad group of advocacy organizations from the progressive and women’s health communities who will be hosting similar events or demonstrations across the country.

The day of action comes after the Stupak abortion coverage ban passed through the U.S. House of Representatives health care reform legislation on Nov. 7. If enacted, the ban would prohibit abortion coverage across the new health insurance exchange and create unprecedented abortion restrictions. Federal law currently bans the use of federal funds for abortions. The Stupak abortion coverage ban goes much further as it denies the use of private money – not just public money – to cover abortions.

As the health care reform debate moves to the Senate, PPRM is working diligently to ensure that health care reform passes and that it protects a woman’s right to purchase a health insurance plan of her choice. On Dec. 2 PPRM representatives will also be at the Tivoli circulating a petition in support of equal and fair treatment of women’s health in health care reform.

WHO:              The general public is encouraged to participate.

WHEN:            Wednesday, Dec. 2
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

WHERE:          Tivoli Student Union, Auraria Campus
900 Auraria Parkway
