Roger Evans started and directed PPFA's Public Policy Litigation and Law program before assuming the position as PPFA's Senior Counsel, Law and Policy.
For more than 30 years Mr. Evans conducted and supervised litigation, on behalf of PPFA and Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country, affecting all areas of reproductive rights. These cases challenged government efforts to restrict access to abortion and other Planned Parenthood services, or to "defund" Planned Parenthood; and protected Planned Parenthood patients from organized opposition efforts to harass, intimidate, and interfere with access to Planned Parenthood health centers, to threaten physician and staff safety, or to prevent expansion of Planned Parenthood services into underserved communities. He was lead or co-counsel in many U.S. Supreme Court cases.
Mr. Evans continues as a senior advisor on major litigation and provides strategic legal advice on legislation in Congress and state legislatures; regulatory issues at the national, state, and local levels; and other issues, such as judicial nominations.
Prior to joining PPFA, Mr. Evans was the managing attorney of MFY Legal Services in New York City, one of the two original legal services programs in the United States. A native of Cleveland, OH, he received his BA from Emory University and his JD from the New York University School of Law.
